Starlink is now available to order in Côte d'Ivoire. On July 16, 2026, SpaceX confirmed the commercial launch of the service on its official account, backed by a coverage map. The country becomes the operator's 27th African market, following a twelve-month provisional authorization issued by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Côte d'Ivoire (ARTCI) in June 2026.
For a country where fiber and 4G still stop at the edge of many localities, the arrival of satellite internet is a game changer on one specific point: coverage. Here's what has been launched, at what price, and how it compares to the offers already on the market.
ARTCI has granted Starlink Network CIV a twelve-month provisional license, authorizing the provision of fixed high-speed satellite internet across the entire territory. Low Earth Orbit (LEO) frequency bands had already been authorized in September 2025. The regulator retains oversight of the frequencies during this experimental period.
The map published by Starlink shows "available" coverage across most of the country, including Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, Daloa, San-Pédro and Korhogo. A few areas in the North and West remain marked as "coming soon."
On performance, Starlink advertises download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, with latency in the range of 25 to 60 milliseconds depending on conditions. It is the low-earth-orbit constellation that enables this latency, far lower than that of older geostationary satellites.
The service is paid for in two stages: the hardware once, then the monthly subscription.
A word of caution is in order. In Côte d'Ivoire, as elsewhere in West Africa, resellers are offering the kit for between 400,000 and 699,000 FCFA, sometimes with "installation" fees of 50,000 FCFA. These amounts are not official. Ordering directly at starlink.com/cotedivoire remains the price reference.
Starlink is not entering an empty market. Fiber optic networks are already deployed in the major cities, often at more affordable rates. The table below places the offers side by side.
| Offer | Technology | Speed | Monthly subscription | Hardware and installation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starlink Residential | Satellite (low orbit) | up to 100 Mbps | 28,746 FCFA | Kit 148,148 to 247,466 FCFA |
| CanalBox Start | Fiber | 50 Mbps | 15,000 FCFA | Free box and installation |
| CanalBox Premium | Fiber | 200 Mbps | 30,000 FCFA | Free box and installation |
| Orange Fibre (residential) | Fiber | depending on plan | from 15,000 FCFA | depending on plan |
| Moov Africa (Ma fibre) | Fiber | depending on plan | from 15,000 FCFA | depending on plan |
| MTN HomeBox | Fixed 4.5G | depending on plan | about 19,900 FCFA | Box approx. 10,000 to 19,900 FCFA |
The takeaway is clear. Where fiber is available, it costs half as much per month as Starlink, with no hardware to buy. CanalBox Premium even delivers 200 Mbps for 30,000 FCFA, box included. Satellite internet therefore doesn't play on the same field as urban fiber.
The right choice depends first and foremost on your address.
In a city connected to fiber, fiber wins on almost every count: lower monthly price, stable speed, low latency, and no upfront investment in an antenna. For a household already eligible for CanalBox, Orange or Moov, the appeal of Starlink remains limited.
Outside fiber zones, the equation reverses. A village, hamlet, farm, worksite, remote tourist site, or peri-urban plot not yet served: these are the places where neither fiber nor decent 4G reaches. Starlink brings connectivity where the alternative was often no network at all. That is its true value proposition.
Two caveats are worth raising before equipping yourself. The antenna depends on electricity, so a UPS (50,000 to 100,000 FCFA) becomes useful in areas prone to power cuts. And the entry cost remains higher than that of a classic home box, which weighs on a household budget.
At Capital Foncier, we look at this launch from a particular angle: that of the use value of land.
A plot of land is judged on its title, its location, and its viability. Connectivity now joins that list. A peri-urban plot yesterday considered "too far from everything" becomes usable as soon as a stable connection is possible: main or secondary residence, remote work, farming activity monitored remotely, small business or workshop. What limited the appeal of certain areas takes a step back.
For a diaspora investor, the effect is twofold. The area gains in use potential, and remotely monitoring a construction or operating project becomes easier when the site is connected. A municipality long considered isolated may see its land demand evolve as coverage expands.
None of this replaces verifying a land title or analyzing an area. But connectivity is one more criterion to factor into a buying decision, alongside road access or water and electricity supply.
How much does Starlink cost in Côte d'Ivoire?
The Mini kit is 148,148 FCFA and the Standard kit is 247,466 FCFA. The residential subscription costs 28,746 FCFA per month, for speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
Is Starlink available everywhere in Côte d'Ivoire?
Coverage is announced as "available" across most of the country, including Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, San-Pédro and Korhogo. A few areas in the North and West remain marked as "coming soon" on the official map.
Fiber or Starlink: which to choose?
In a fiber-connected city, fiber is more affordable and more stable. Starlink takes the lead in areas without fiber or decent 4G: rural, underserved peri-urban zones, worksites and remote sites.
Should I pay a reseller for installation?
No. The kit is ordered directly from Starlink's official website. Inflated prices between 400,000 and 699,000 FCFA and the "installation" fees offered by intermediaries are not official rates.
What latency can I expect compared to a classic satellite?
The low-earth-orbit constellation delivers latency in the range of 25 to 60 milliseconds, far lower than that of geostationary satellites, making video calls and browsing comfortable.
Prices are those recorded in mid-July 2026 and may change. Always check the current price on the official websites before ordering.
